Discover the Heart and Soul of Mediterranean Cuisine at a Local Cafe
Arthur and Nayri Iskenderian have turned a simple idea into a thriving cornerstone of the South Shore community—and they’ve done so with Bo Café, a vibrant eatery bringing authentic Mediterranean and Armenian flavors to the neighborhood. Noticing a gap in the area’s culinary scene, Bo Café was founded to offer a unique dining experience that’s rich in both tradition and flavor.
From Boutique to Bistro
Originally running Bo Line Boutique, Arthur and Nayri realized they couldn’t find quality Mediterranean food in the area—and that’s what sparked the idea for their new business venture. After Cedar Café closed, Arthur decided to take matters into his own hands. Bo Café started small and initially operated out of a subleased convenience store space, but after two and a half years, they found their current location and transformed it into the cozy, welcoming establishment their loyal customers know and love today.
A Menu to Remember
Honoring the rich culinary heritage of the Mediterranean, Bo Café’s menu offers a delectable array of sandwiches, dips, salads, desserts, along with a curated wine and beer selection. Their homemade grab-and-go items make it easy to enjoy authentic flavors on the fly. Plus, with exceptional vegetarian and gluten-free options, their dishes cater to every palate. However, what truly sets Bo Café apart is its dedication to Armenian cuisine. From stuffed peppers and cabbage rolls to eetch (a bulgur salad cooked with spices and tomato paste), their offerings evoke a sense of nostalgia for those who grew up with these traditional dishes. As Nayri shares, “Every time someone eats our food, they tell us, ‘It brings us home.’”
Building a Community Through Food
Bo Café has become more than just a restaurant; it’s a hub for the South Shore community. The Iskenderians have formed lasting friendships with their customers, and their actions prove how grateful they are for the community’s support. Bo Café is actively involved in their community: From donating gift cards to local schools, churches, or events, or providing meals to hospitals during the pandemic, Arthur and Nayri believe in giving back.
Weathering Challenges with Resilience
For Bo Café, the path to success hasn’t always been easy. Introducing a new cuisine to hesitant diners required perseverance, and the outbreak of COVID-19 was an unexpected challenge that hit just months after they opened their current location. With quick thinking and determination, they adapted by focusing on grab-and-go options and serving essential workers. The unwavering support of their customers helped them weather the storm.
Looking Ahead
As Arthur and Nayri plan for the future, they hope to pass the torch to someone who shares their passion for Mediterranean cuisine and will continue the Bo Café legacy. Their vision is to ensure the flavors and warmth they’ve cultivated remain a cherished part of the community for years to come.
A Legacy of Love and Flavor
For those who crave the finest Mediterranean food in the South Shore, Bo Café is more than a restaurant—it’s a journey to the heart of the Mediterranean and a unique culinary experience in the area. As one loyal customer puts it, “It’s the finest Mediterranean food in the area. The combination of Armenian and Lebanese cuisine, paired with their Italian sister store Bocaccia, covers everything the Mediterranean diet has to offer.”
